THE PURPOSE OF THE CHURCH

Matthew 28:16–20 records Jesus’ final instructions to His disciples, known as the Great Commission. After His resurrection, the eleven disciples meet Him on a mountain in Galilee, where He declares that all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him. He then commands them to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything He has commanded. Jesus concludes with a powerful promise: He will be with them always, to the very end of the age.
