THE GREATER PRIEST

Hebrews 7:11–19 argues that the old Levitical priesthood could never bring people to true perfection, so God introduced a new and better priesthood—one grounded not in ancestry but in the indestructible life of Jesus. By appointing Christ as High Priest “after the order of Melchizedek,” God set aside the former commandment because it was weak and unable to save. In Jesus, a better hope has arrived—one that actually brings us near to God. His eternal priesthood provides the access, assurance, and perfection the law could never achieve.
